Gerhard Hauptmann House

Wiesenstein House in Jelenia Góra – Jagniatków (Agnetendorf)

“A castle to protect and to defy”, that’s how Gerhart Hauptmann called his villa in the Giant Mountains. It is a hiding place, a place to recover but also a meeting place for artists, authors, and politicians. On the inside it was supposed to represent “a kind of soul temple, a kind of pantheon”.
Wiesenstein was described by Hauptmann in his „Buch der Leidenschaft“ („book of passion“) as a “house of life, a house of love, a house of work, a house of joy, a house of wisdom, but also a house of despair”.
